CVA support Autism Hour

The National Autistic Society (NAS) Autism Hour campaign aims to improve the lives of autistic people and their families by changing public perceptions, attitudes and behaviour towards them by improving public understanding of autism and by improving access to community facilities such as shopping centres, cafes, leisure centres, heritage sites and other public places.

The Autism Hour campaign commences the week beginning 2nd October 2017 and asks retailers and businesses to choose an hour during that week when they will agree to, turn down music or other noise and dim the lights, share information with employees and increase public understanding. Chester Voluntary Action are working in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council, along with many other statutory and voluntary sector partners to be a part of this important campaign

We want to encourage local shops, businesses and services to sign up on the National Autistic Website by the 15th September 2017. All of the information you need to be a part of this important initiative can be found here www.autism.org.uk/autismhour , the website also has a host of resources such as letters and flyers to explain the importance of the campaign.

The local branch of the NAS in conjunction with Storyhouse are running a TMI (Too Much Information) event to raise awareness about autism as part of the Autism Hour initiative. This will take place on Monday 2nd October at 10am at Storyhouse.

TOUGH MUDDER SUCCESS! In benefit of Claire House Children’s Hospice

TOUGH MUDDER SUCCESS! In benefit of Claire House Children’s Hospice

The Trustland Group turns 45 years old this year and to mark the occasion we’ve pledged to raise a HUGE £45,000 for our local childrens hospice Claire House!

As a part of our fundraising effort, a group of us took on the challenge of completing the full Tough Mudder North West on Saturday! We somehow, pushed, pulled and dragged each other over 10.7 miles and 26 gruelling obstacles in the miserable British weather. We endured being submerged in ice tanks and shocked by 10,000 volts of electricity and yet we all lived to complete the course and tell the tale! There’s a lot of bruises and sore bodies in the office this morning, but we’ve made some fantastic memories and raised over £3,650 for Claire House, so a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far! We’re currently on a grand total of £18,802 so we still have a long way to go! If you’d like to help us get even further along, please donate using the Just Giving link below.

Thank you, Les Owens (Managing Director)

Microsoft 365 strategy announced

Microsoft 365 Business was launched at the recent Microsoft Inspire event that took Microsoft 365 Business launchplace just last month in Washington DC.

The tech giant announced a move that falls under its strategy to combine productivity-based programs. Microsoft 365 Business sees Enterprise Mobility and Security, Windows 10, and Office 365 all available in a single package.

Inspire made the package accessible to consumers in private beta mode. Earlier this month, however, it advanced to public beta. Which enabled the businesses they always intended to reach, i.e. SMEs, to benefit from it.

The package, with full Microsoft support, will be on sale by 2018.

School hopes Apple devices will spell the end of lockers

An American school headteacher has cited lighter backpacks and the need for fewerApple devices - how to improve the learning experience lockers as key reasons for making Apple devices available to all students.

Allen Smithers, headmaster of Presbyterian Christian School (PCS) in Mississippi, wants his students to take advantage of technology on an individual basis. Each student is to receive a Apple device to assist them with their studies for the coming academic year.

PCS is now one of only a few Mississippi schools exclusively deploying Apple devices. The scheme was first proposed after meeting with graduates from the school. When they informed them how their professors computerised all their work.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity Corporate Challenge

2017 is an exciting time for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, as we start our expansion into the heart of the region with a brand new hospital in Liverpool city centre and look ahead to improving our Wirral site.

It’s our vision to transform cancer care for patients across the North West and this is your chance to be with us from the very beginning! In 2015, companies across Merseyside and Cheshire raised over £30,000 in our first ever corporate challenge. This helped to fund the state of the art Varian Edge radiotherapy machine, making us the first cancer hospital in the UK to have this piece of equipment. It has since made a huge difference to the treatment plan of hundreds of patients.

In 2016, businesses of every size took part in our second Clatterbridge Corporate Challenge and raised over £25,000 to help fund The Lounge – an important social space for our most unwell patients, when the new hospital opens its doors.

We need your help once again in 2017/18!  By signing up to our challenge, and making the pledge to turn £50 into £1000 over six months, you could help us raise the additional £15,000 still needed to fund the Lounge in our new hospital in Liverpool.

This is your chance to really make a difference to the community in which you work, supporting cancer patients in our region, and having fun in the process. Sign up today to join in this ground-breaking endeavour, as, together, we create a legacy to be proud of for the rest of our lives.
